Overview
The Dependent Information Create request allows F-1 students to add dependents to their SEVIS record after their initial I-20 has been issued. Note: if issuing dependent I-20s with the initial F-1 I-20 request, dependents should be processed as part of the Create Student request.
This request can be initiated by ISSS Admins or by the students themselves, if the request is configured to be available to them in their present stage.
Configuring Dependent Information Create Request
To configure the Dependent Information Create request, first navigate to Request Configuration via Menu > Configuration > Request Configuration.
Locate the Dependent Information Create request in the Active Requests list and click on the request name.
Once inside the request, ISSS Admins can customize the request components and questionnaires as desired. For more detailed information on creating and editing a request configuration, please refer to our Request Configuration KB article.
Since the Dependent Information Create request allows multiple dependents to be added at a time, any components such as questionnaires or file uploads that ISSS Admins wish to be completed for each dependent must be configured to apply for each dependent. To do this, click the edit pencil icon to the right of the component.
Once within the component configuration modal, set the Apply per dependent? toggle in the upper right hand corner of the modal to the right, then click Submit. This will make the component appear for each dependent added as part of the request.
Processing Dependent Information Create Request
Depending on the parameters established in the request configuration, the ISSS Admin or the F-1 student will initiate the Dependent Information Create request. If initiating the request, an ISSS Admin will go to the Requests tab of the Student Profile, click the Plus button to the right of Pending Requests, and select Dependent Information Create (or custom request name, if edited in Request Configurations) from the Search Request Type modal.
If an F-1 student is initiating the request, the student will select the request from their Student Portal Control Center.
Once the request has been initiated, the ISSS Admin or student will complete all required fields and components for the dependent. If adding more than one dependent, click the Plus button that will appear at the end of each dependent to add a new dependent section. As many dependents can be added as necessary to the same request.
If requesting F-2 I-20s for the dependents, the Return Document box must be checked. To save the request without submitting or approving it, the ISSS Admin or student can click Save at the bottom of the request. To submit the request for review and approval by an ISSS Admin, the student or ISSS Admin can click Submit.
Once ready to approve the request, the ISSS Admin will click Approve Changes at the bottom of the request and batch or post the request to RTI.
