Overview
Within the Admin Console, many features include a central search field from which administrators can locate desired applications, programs, content, and more. Different search query types are supported within the software's unique features. This article provides an overview of how these search query types are defined and where they are supported in the Admin Console.
Definition of Terms
Search query types used in the Admin Console are defined as follows:
Keyword Search
Text is entered into the available search field when using a keyword search. A minimum of three characters must be entered in order to trigger the search to run. (If you want to search on a number, such as "8", then you would type 8 followed by two spaces to trigger the three characters.)
The results produced are inclusive of all options that contain any of the keywords entered. When more keywords are used, the more likely your results will be broad and numerous because the system will return any name that contains one or more of the keywords.
Example:
Global Summer Programs is entered into a keyword search field.
The results returned will be inclusive of any options that contain the word "Global" and/or "Summer" and/or "Programs".
To narrow down your results and perform a more granular search, enter less keywords and use those that are the most unique. In this example, using the word "Global" would narrow down the search results tremendously.
Quoted Search
This search type requires that the user place quotation marks around a name, such as "John Park", to pull in only those results matching this exact name.
Phrase-Based Search
When using this search type, a group of words are entered into the search field without the use of quotation marks. The system reads this phrase as a single value (instead of as distinct keywords) and always returns results based on a match on the entire phrase entered.
Example:
Global Summer Programs is entered into a phrase-based search field.
The results returned will only include those which match the entire phrase of "Global Summer Programs".
