Overview
This article reviews the process of initiating and processing the reinstatement request for a student who has lost SEVIS status. The reinstatement request is an out-of-the-box request with standard SEVIS-Mapped questions. Any additional questions or components can be added by the ISSS Admin to the request by going to the request configuration page.
Reinstatement
The student can initiate the reinstatement request from the control center in their student portal or the ISSS Admin can initiate this request. To initiate the request for the student, navigate to the student's profile and then click into the Request tab. Click on the plus button in the upper right corner of the pending request section and select Reinstatement.
Once the request has been submitted, the ISSS Admin assigned to process reinstatement requests and will be alerted to review the request. Once ready to approve, this request can be Posted to RTI. Note: reinstatement requests cannot be batched.
After completing the Post to RTI process, the reinstatement request will remain in the Awaiting Adjudication status until USCIS makes a decision.
Reinstatement Flag
In the student's profile, scroll down to Program Information section of the Profile Tab. There is a flag for reinstatements that the ISSS Admin will select yes after posting the request to RTI. The reinstatement flag sets that this profile is awaiting adjudication.
Reinstatement pends with USCIS for months and months. In the meantime, the Reinstatement flag moves the student from the Archived stage back into the Continuing stage. This will allow students access to the requests configured for Continuing stage students.
ISSS Admins can filter for students with reinstatement flags in the Student List. Clicking into the Fields button, select the reinstatement checkbox in the lower right corner.
After USCIS sends Notice
Approval
If USCIS approves the reinstatement, the student will move into Active SEVIS status and the Continuing stage. The ISSS Admin will then need to scrape the individual record from RTI to update the SEVIS status in the student's Terra Dotta profile.
Once the individual record has been scraped, the ISSS Admin will manually remove the reinstatement flag from the student's profile and review and/or update any information.
Denial
If USCIS denies the reinstatement, the SEVIS status of the student continues to remain as Terminated and will move to the Archived stage. The ISSS Admin will then need to manually remove the reinstatement from the student's profile.
