Overview
This KB reviews the process of completing the Admin Only Action of Cancel. These actions are only for ISSS Admin to see and each action contains a specific SEVIS Action. This will show in the Completed Card on the Request Tab as well as in the History Log for each student.
In the header of an F-1 Student’s record, we will see a SEVIS Actions button with a drop-down menu. The dropdown will contain: Cancel, Complete Program, Defer Attendance, Shorten Program, and Terminate.
Shorten Program
Continuing Stage
Shorten program is done when the student plans to finish their program earlier than expected. Generally, this is done when the student is applying for OPT as the Program End Date controls the eligibility for OPT application windows. The student would need to be in Active SEVIS status for this option (otherwise we would use the Manage Initial Program and Session Dates function (for Initial status students)).
Step 1:
If Shorten Program is selected from the SEVIS Actions menu on the student record, the ISSS Admin will be directed to the student’s SEVIS record: Shorten Program action.
Step 2:
Enter the new end date and any associated remarks and click Update.
Step 3:
Once the record is updated, the shortening will appear in the Completed Card on the Requests tab.
Once the record is updated, the shortened program will appear in the History Log as well.
