AlertTraveler® offers a Proximity feature in the settings that allows admins to see all travelers near an alert site. Admins can configure the desired “Proximity” range, such as 2 miles, and automatically see all travelers within it for every alert issued. Admins can create proximity alerts and check-in requests for those within the configured proximity as well. Proximity alerts allow admins to keep travelers educated about events that may impact them with just a few quick clicks.
This article discusses the following topics:
Access and Permissions
To set up and use the proximity feature, the admin should have the following permissions:
AlertTraveler: Alerts
AlertTraveler: Traveler Locations
AlertTraveler: Impacted Traveler
AlertTraveler: Settings
AlertTraveler: Create check-ins
AlertTraveler: Add SMS to Check-In request
AlertTraveler: Create Alert
AlertTraveler: Edit Check-In Status & Resolve Request
To use this feature in the AlertTraveler® app, the user must also have the following permission:
AlertTraveler: Admin access for the AlertTraveler mobile app.
Note: For optimal performance the admin should be in the AlertTraveler permission group, however this permission group provides unrestricted access to AlertTraveler data and settings, so exercise caution when adding users to this group.
To configure proximity alerts, navigate to AlertTraveler>Settings>Admin, enable the Proximity setting, and choose the desired default proximity area (in either miles or kilometers). Once this is set, the Alerts page will have an additional "Proximity" column.
Alerts based on Proximity can automatically be sent to impacted travelers if enabled. As with all notifications, a severity threshold is set, as well as the categories.
Using Proximity
Once Proximity is enabled and configured, admins will see a "Proximity" column in the AlertTraveler>Alerts page. From here, click to see who is pulled into the Proximity for a given alert as well as create an alert for those in the Proximity.
Clicking the "Total: [number]" will take an admin to the page showing all travelers in their designated proximity.
The darker red dots are the alert areas while the lighter red surrounding them shows the proximity. Using the dropdown 'Affected Area(s)" to change the proximity can remove and add travelers to the Proximity alert.
Expanding the radius to 100 miles in this example pulled in one traveler. From here, an alert can be created to warn this traveler to stay abreast of the situation and to be prepared to arrange alternate travel if planning to travel to France for the weekend (the dates of the alert).
Creating Proximity Alerts
A Proximity alert can be created two ways:
- clicking 'Create Alert' from the "Proximity" column from AlertTraveler>Alerts
- clicking 'Create Proximity Alert' from the "Options" tab within the Proximity view of an alert
Upon clicking to create the alert, which contains the details of the original alert issued, the admin must click 'Proceed to alert creation' in the following message in order to move forward.
