If you are subscribing or publishing to the Study Abroad Directory, then you will need to map the program parameters so that your site can easily accept information from and share information with the Directory site.
To map program parameters in Terra Dotta, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Settings > System Features > Directory tab.
- You will see a list of items that can be mapped.
- Click "View Current Mappings" to see what is already mapped.
This article discusses the following topics:
- Terms
- Program Parameters (importing)
- Program Parameters (publishing)
- Locations
- Manual Mapping of Locations
- Auto Map Locations
Important Note: You can only map from the Directory to terms, program parameters, and locations that have already been created on your site.
Terms
- To map terms, click the edit pencil icon to the right.
- Click the green arrow under Actions for the term you want to map
- A drop down list appears that includes the terms you created on your site. Choose the corresponding term and click Save.
- You can edit your mapping by clicking the edit icon or delete the mapping by clicking the red 'x'.
- These terms are now mapped and will be updated automatically the next time you update your Directory programs.
Note: Once you have mapped to a specific term, that term will no longer be available in the drop-down list.
Program Parameters (importing)
- To map program parameters (importing), click the edit pencil icon to the right.
- Click the edit pencil icon next to the Directory parameter you wish to map to your site.
- You must then choose how to map the different parameter options from the drop down lists on the right. (Example: you will first choose to map the Directory parameter Language of Instruction to your parameter Instruction Language. Then you must choose to link the Directory parameter value English with your parameter value English.)
- Save
Note: Any parameters or parameter values that are left unmapped will simply be skipped over when updating your Directory programs. There is no problem in leaving things unmapped.
- To map program parameters (publishing), click the edit pencil icon to the right.
- Click the edit pencil icon next to the Directory parameter you wish to map to your site.
- You will be brought to a page where you can select the radio button next to the parameter on your site that will correspond with the parameter on the Directory.
- Click Next.
- You must then choose how to map the different parameter options from the drop down lists on the right.
- Save
The Directory has a uniform set of program parameters (Language of Instruction, Class Status, Housing Options, Areas of Study, Program Type, Minimum GPA, Language GPA, and Program). If you have a parameter that you want to publish on the Directory but it is not included in the Directory parameters, you can:
- Contact Terra Dotta and ask us for the parameter to be added to the options.
- Include the information in the program brochure instead of as a program parameter.
Locations
- To map locations, click the edit icon to the right.
- You will see a list of all the program locations available on the Directory.
- You can choose to manually map the locations you plan on using OR you can automap all of the matching locations. See the screenshot and explanations below.
Manual Mapping of Locations
- Click the arrows next to the name of the location you wish to map.
- Choose the corresponding location from the drop down list.
- Click Save.
You can edit or delete mapped locations by clicking the edit or delete icons to the right.
If you have several locations you would like to map to the Directory, using the Auto Map feature will save a lot of time! This will automatically map any location on your site if there is an exact match on the Directory.
- Simply click the Auto Map Locations button in the upper right corner of the page.
- You will see a pop-up announcement telling you how many locations were successfully mapped.
- You can edit and delete these mapped locations.
- Any location that was not mapped during the Auto Map process will need to be manually mapped if it's a location you are going to use.
Note: It does not affect your site in any way to have unmapped locations or to have mapped locations that you are not using.
