Overview
This KB explains how you can edit the initial processing visa type for scholars; for example, from processing as H-1B to J-1. It also explains what happens to the scholar's uploaded documents originally associated to the initially indicated visa processing type.
You can now edit the initial processing visa type for scholars. For example, if your office has received additional information from the sponsoring department that the salary has increased, making the position now eligible for H-1B sponsorship, clicking the Change Visa Type button will permit you to change the visa type. The ISSS Admin is redirected to the new H-1B application as soon as the visa type is changed, and a new message will reinvite the prospective scholar to the scholar portal.
Change Scholar Visa Type Processing Decision
Scholar Document & History Functionality
Document Tab
Uploaded documents will follow scholars if their proposed visa status type is changed. The documents will be flagged as original to the first request and will be linked as documents under the Previous Record in the Documents tab.
History Tab
The previous request will remain cataloged in the History tab so that advising staff can open it later to review. The History Tab will also indicate the admin that made the determination to change the visa type and provide a link to the complete original request.
Note: For H-1B applicants, this action is limited to Pending Records. Amendments are coming for Active H-1B employees in 2019.
