This KB explains how to use the Post to RTI Functionality in the SEVIS Profile to update SEVIS information with the following examples:
Overview
To post information directly via RTI Connect, a user must have a completed, relevant record with a SEVIS-mapped questionnaire. The record can be initiated by the user, or by the ISSS admin under Records > New Record. The questionnaire(s) can be completed by the user and reviewed/edit by the admin, or the questionnaire(s) can be completed by the admin with no student/scholar input.
After the associated questionnaire(s) is complete, click on the SEVIS Profile button to be taken to the SEVIS Profile.
NOTE: Two requirements for the Post to RTI feature to work are:
- The associated record must be in Pending Status
- The status of the questionnaires associated with the record must be Submitted
The record will appear in the Records section of the SEVIS Profile. This section displays the record created, the app cycle, who created the record (user or admin name), the date the record was created, and the status. The status must be Pending in order for the Post to RTI functionality to work properly.
- Find the relevant record and click the Post to RTI icon, located in the Copy Data to RTI column.
- A data review page will load in a new tab.
- Review the data presented. If data is incorrect on this page, you can go back to edit the info in the questionnaire(s) OR you can continue to push it to RTI, and then edit the information in RTI. If you edit the information in RTI, the edits will save back into Terra Dotta, and update the data in the questionnaire(s) as well.
- After the information has been reviewed, click Copy Data to Clipboard. The embedded browser will load in a new tab. Log in to SEVIS via the embedded browser, and select the user’s SEVIS record.
After accessing the correct SEVIS record in the embedded browser, select the action you wish to take.
This will be the record created in Terra Dotta (e.g., OPT request, CPT request, and so on).
Example: OPT Request
The example provided below shows how the Post to RTI works with the OPT action.
- Navigate to the SEVIS Record.
- Click OPT Request.
- All previously requested OPT will display.
- Click New OPT Request.
- Click the Post Data to RTI button.
- The data will auto-populate and will match the data displayed on the data review page in Terra Dotta.
- After the information is copied into the request page, you may make any other necessary edits.
- When you save, the information will be saved and updated in Terra Dotta as well.
- After the update has been confirmed in SEVIS, you can print the I-20/DS-2019 for the user.
- By clicking, Print I-20 or Print DS-2019 a copy of the SEVIS form will also be saved in the user's SEVIS Profile.
- From the SEVIS Profile, click Terra Dotta Profile > Records.
- The OPT Request is now displayed as SEVIS Processed.
Example: Financial Information Update
Another example with a slightly different workflow is the Financial Info Update.
- Instead of creating a new record in Terra Dotta, navigate to the user’s SEVIS Profile > Financials section.
- Click on the Post to RTI Icon in the header.
- This will load the data review page.
- Review the data prior to posting to RTI.
- Click Copy Data to Clipboard to open RTI Connect in a new tab.
- Select the user from the list.
- The profile page will load for you to edit the financial information.
- Click Edit next to the Financial Section.
- Click the Post Data to RTI button to populate the data fields.
- If you edit the information on the RTI page, the edits will save back into Terra Dotta and will display in the SEVIS Profile.
- After saving the data, you can print the new I-20/DS-2019.
- To view the updates and the most recent I-20/DS-2019, navigate back to the user’s SEVIS Profile in Terra Dotta.
Dependencies
- After you have selected a certain action to Post to RTI, you must select the same action in RTI.
- For example, if you completed the user’s OPT questionnaire, but clicked Post Data to RTI from the user’s Financial section, the message below will display. This message is your safeguard to make sure to post information into the correct section of SEVIS.
- If multiple profiles for the same user exist, you must select the appropriate active or initial result.
- If you select a user record whose SEVIS status is Draft or Terminated, the message below will display, and direct you back to the search results page to select the correct user.
