This article outlines the steps to edit an existing OPT Employer on a student's OPT record via the SEVIS batch.
- Step 1: Find the Existing OPT Employment Update Record
- Step 2: Complete and/or Review SEVIS-Required Data
- Step 3: Create SEVIS Update Record
Step 1: Find the Existing OPT Employment Update Record
- Navigate to Record > Search.
- Enter the name of the student whose OPT Employer information you'd like to edit and report to SEVIS.
- On the results page, find the student's existing OPT Employment Update (F/M) record.
Step 2: Complete and/or Review SEVIS-Required Data
SEVIS Admin clients may configure their site in one of two ways:
Allow students to complete SEVIS-mapped question items for their OPT Employment Update (F/M) record
OR
Edit the questionnaire to remove it from the student view. By removing it from the student view, only Admins can complete the question items. To do this, go to:
- Process > Questionnaires > OPT Employer > Click the edit icon > Select Yes to Is this an internal-use questionnaire? > Update
- Select the check box to the left of the applicable Application Cycle(s) for the questionnaire > Select Apply.
Depending on how your site is configured, Admins should review, edit, or complete the bold, required SEVIS-mapped Question Items in the user's record.
- Employer Name - Do not edit. The Employer Name must remain the same as the student's existing OPT employer. If the Employer Name differs, then report a SEVIS Admin: F/M Student Batch Action > OPT Employer > Add.
- Address Line 1 - Update with the new Employer's address.
- Address Line 2 - Update with the new Employer's address, if applicable.
- City - Update with the new Employer's city.
- State - Update with the new Employer's state.
- Zip Code - Update with the new Employer's zip code.
- Employer Identifier.
- Self-employed Indicator.
- Relevance of Employment to Course Work - Update for the Employer
- Full or Part-Time Employment with Employer - Update for the Employer
- Employer Start Date - Do not edit. The Employer Start Date must remain the same as the student's existing OPT Employer update.
- Employer End Date - Enter only if the student will no longer be working with the existing employer.
- Supervisor First Name
- Supervisor Last Name
- Supervisor Phone Number
- Supervisor Phone Extension
- Supervisor Email
- Student Job Title
- New Employer Name
- New Employer Start Date
- New Employer End Date
When you have completed the necessary fields, click Submit.
