This article outlines the steps to add a new Off-Campus Employment request to batch to SEVIS.
The Off-Campus Employment program is titled Off-Campus Employment - Severe Economic Hardship (F/M). Although the name indicates Severe Economic Hardship, all off-campus employment recommendation types in SEVIS (except CPT and OPT) are created using this program.
The Off-Campus Employment questionnaire forms the basis for a SEVIS update record for Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief recommendations by the DSO.

Step 1: Off-Campus Employment Record Creation
Student-Initiated
You may allow students to initiate an Off-Campus Employment record (Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief) online.
Offices are able to create a button or link that can be placed on a Terra Dotta page, an external webpage, or even an email with a link that a student can click to be redirected to Terra Dotta to create an Off-Campus Employment record (Economic Hardship, International Organization or Special Student Relief) .
Staff-Initiated
Admins may initiate an online Off-Campus Employment record (Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief) on the behalf of a student.
Step 2: Find Off-Campus Employment Record
- Navigate to Record > Search.
- Enter the name of the student whose Off-Campus Employment record (Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief) you would like to review and send to SEVIS.
Step 3: Complete and Review SEVIS Data
You may either:
Allow students to complete SEVIS-mapped Question Items for their Off-Campus Employment record for Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief,
OR
Edit the questionnaire to remove it from student view for the Off-Campus Employment. By removing it from the student view, only Admins can complete the question items. To complete do so, go to:

Process > Questionnaires > Off-Campus Employment Information > Click the edit pencil > Select Yes to Is this an internal-use questionnaire? > Update
- Select the checkbox to the left of the Application Cycle(s) to which you wish to deploy the questionnaire > Select Apply.
- Depending on how your site is configured, Admins should review, edit, or complete the required SEVIS-mapped Question Items in the record:
- Employment Start Date - the date the Off-Campus Employment authorization will begin.
- Employment End Date- the date the Off-Campus Employment authorization will end.
- Type of Employment - select Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief.
- Recommendation (optional) - Remarks for Off-Campus Employment
- New Employment Start Date - the date the New Off-Campus Employment authorization will begin.
- New Employment End Date- the date the New Off-Campus Employment authorization will end.
- New Type of Employment - select Economic Hardship, International Organization, or Special Student Relief as the new employment.
- Depending on how your site is configured, Admins should review, edit, or complete the required SEVIS-mapped Question Items in the record:
Step 4: Create SEVIS Update Record
When all fields are complete, you will create a SEVIS Update Record. For instructions on how to do this, see SEVIS Admin: Creating a SEVIS Update Record.
