The outgoing program type is the standard study abroad model in which the program has a location(s) and defined dates for all applicants each term. It is also cyclical and involves publicly marketing it to potential applicants. The majority of the program feature set is enabled for this program type. It also is commonly involved in exchange balances.
This program type is connected to the Study Abroad Directory service in which study abroad program providers can maintain information about their study abroad programs and allow it to be downloaded to a Terra Dotta software site. Programs built as ‘outgoing’ programs can also be published to the Directory should the office want to allow applicants from other institutions to participate on the program.
Outgoing programs require that a location be assigned to the program along with program itineraries to indicate group travel dates. Applicants are able to search for outgoing programs in the public catalog and will be prompted to select an application cycle upon beginning an application. Applicants will not be permitted to edit their itineraries at any point in the application life cycle for this type of program. Only administrators will be able to edit, add, or remove itinerary records on applications to outgoing programs.
If an applicant has more than one application to different outgoing programs in the same application cycle, they will be permitted to rank the programs in the order of their preference. This is done on their applicant homepage. Typically, an applicant would not be able to participate in 2, Fall 2018 outgoing programs, so if they have more than application to Fall 2018 outgoing programs, the system will allow them to rank those applications.
Outgoing programs can be configured to accept both internal and/or external applicants. You can also determine if external applicants who apply will be required to indicate their home institution or not.
Outgoing programs do not offer an option for creating a OneStep application because generally, applications to Outgoing programs are quite involved and require the applicant to login in several times to complete all of the requirements.
