This article explains how to access and use the Active OPT Student Report.
Finding active enrolled students is becoming easier with our new Active OPT Students report found on the Report page of the SEVIS Admin. This article will outline the SIS file requirements needed to use this report to the fullest capability as well as new reporting features. When fully engaged, this report should help ISSS Admin to gather data used to complete the Open Doors report. The Active OPT Student Report will facilitate your demographic reporting for students on Active OPT, using active OPT records from a time range as the baseline from which to pull specific information. The report is located on the Active OPT Students button on the Reports page. The data analysis should pull data from both integrated and non-integrated users since some OPT students are changed to non-integrated due to university-level constraints.
Note: In order to obtain the most accurate analysis possible, it is important to scrape and update Terra Dotta OPT records from the SEVIS Students with Requested, Pending, and Approved Optional Practical Training (OPT) list. This tool and the OPT Employer tool both rely on the presence of Actual OPT Start and End Dates in the student's SEVIS record in order to correctly process. At present, the OPT status history is not taken into consideration, so students who did not fully complete their OPT period (that is, who did not remain on OPT all the way to the end date) will still be counted through their OPT end date, not their status end date.
SIS File Requirements
The Active OPT Student analysis is built with information in SIS-mapped parameters. In order to use this report to the fullest capabilities, we recommend the SIS file contain the following data (non-customized fields):
- Degree Level
- Gender
- Marital Status
- Major/Field of Study
- Country of Birth
- Country of Citizenship
Mapping User Parameters
Once ISSS admin has ensured that the SIS file contains the required data, the admin should also ensure that the User/Applicant Parameters are mapped correctly.
Analysis
Admin can find the Active OPT Student report in SEVIS Admin > Reports in the Default Reports panel.
The default load of this analysis includes information from the last calendar year. However, once generated, ISSS Admin are presented with an opportunity to select the time period in which enrolled students are identified. Date range options:
- Within the previous thirty days.
- Within the last twelve months (for example, if the report is pulled on 2/21/2019, the results will yield any part of OPT active from 2/21/2019 - 2/22/2018).
- Within a custom date range based on the USCIS-approved OPT start date or end date. This search will be calculated using the Actual OPT start date and end date.
This report will identify a student who was on active post completion OPT or STEM extension for any part of the time period requested. Therefore, if you select a the date range of August 1 to 31, a student whose active OPT status ended on September 30 should still appear on the report as they were on active OPT through part of the search period.
You can drag and drop demographic tags into the axes, as with the Active Academic Objective report. This information is particularly useful in completing the OPT sections of the Open Doors report. Future development will include identifying the students meeting each criterion (for example, the names of the two students from India currently on an OPT STEM extension following a successful completion of a bachelor's degree).
Optional demographic tags on the report include:
- Gender
- Marital Status
- Major/Field of Study
- Country of Birth
- Country of Citizenship
- STEM Start Date
- STEM End Date
- USCIS Approved Start Date
- USCIS Approved End Date
- Degree Level
- OPT Category
- Name
- SEVIS ID
- Campus
