This article will explain the steps you need to take to create a new Form I-20 or DS-2019 via the SEVIS batch for a student requesting a Change of Status.
If your SIS has student’s information brought in to Terra Dotta in visa categories other than F/M/J, complete the following steps to create a new I-20/DS-2019 if a Change of Status to F/M/J is requested.
1. Navigate to Maintenance > Edit User > Search for the user and click Next after selecting the name from results.
For Integrated User select no and then click Update.
2. Navigate back to the user’s Profile > Information tab to change the visa type to F-1/J-1.
3. Create new I-20/DS-2019
Click SEVIS Admin > Activities to create new I-20/DS-2019 for the student’s Change of Status.
In the Activities panel, click Add Student if you are creating an I-20 for an F/M student. Click Add Exchange Visitor if you are creating a DS-2019 for a J Exchange Visitor.
For User Type, select Existing, External.
NOTE: In the Add Student activity (for F/M) records, you may need to select CHANGE OF STATUS for the Issue Reason in the Academic objective information section.
4. After entering the required information, select Submit.
The Activities panel will create a new SEVIS Update Record for you to verify and batch to SEVIS. The following business day, the new form will be returned with the batch download.
After the batch has successfully downloaded, navigate to Maintenance > Edit User in Terra Dotta to change the user status back to integrated, following the steps above.
Note: For the user in the example (with a visa type A-1), if the SIS refresh were to change the visa type back to a non-SEVIS visa type, the history information for the Change of Status update will be hidden from view, and the SEVIS profile will not display since the user’s visa type would no longer be F/M/J.
